Persian (Slat) Blinds

A Window Blind that consists of lots of horizontal slats made from metal or vinyl (plus other tough materials) held together by string is commonly referred too as Persian or Slat blinds. The operator can rotate the the slats usually by pulling a cord to control the sitting position by around 170 degrees. This control can be used to vary the light entering or leaving a room for privacy and comfort.

Vertical blinds can be made from materials that have less of a stiff structure due to being suspended from above. Materials such as fabrics can be used with inserts at the top and bottom to attach to the turning mechanisms. These benefit from being able to close more securely compared to vertical blinds, allowing the user to block light better.

Venetian

Venetian Blinds, often referred to as “Wood Blinds” or “Bamboo Blinds” are horizontal blinds suspended by cloth or tape cords that can rotate the slats that are held between them 180 degrees. The slats typically overlap each other to allow the blocking of light entering a room or simply dimming it. The slats widths can vary model to model but usually fall within 1" – 2 1/2" with 2" being the most popular choice.

Vertical

Verticals blinds benefit from the ability to be stronger and less?resilient?to harsh winds experienced often is some parts of the world or times of the year. The ability to survive these extremes make them a great investment when compared to horizontal blinds.

Vertical blinds are often a great choice for doorways and can act as a simple door while still letting air in and out of a room. In cold storage, vertical blinds are used as a way of letting people move between rooms while restricting the cold from leaving and the warm from entering.

Apart from the obvious choices above their exists a whole world of different blinds custom made for any different type of purpose. With new ideas constantly entering the market its hard to keep up but the basic idea behind them will always stay the same.
